The Sergio Rodrigues Institute (Rio de Janeiro, since 2012) is a non-profit organization aimed at preserving the collection of the master and making his entire body of work available to the general public, as well as promoting and encouraging knowledge and dialogue about Brazilian architecture and design in contemporary times.
In this 2025 edition of SP ARTE, the Sergio Rodrigues Institute introduces a specially designed space dedicated to the commemorative journey of the architect-designer’s Centennial. Upon examining the chronology of his creations, we can see that Sergio always had a visionary approach. Each piece represented the refined evolution of a concept in harmony with our culture, unfolding and being experimented with in other of his creations, productions, and initiatives, crossing radically different socioeconomic and cultural contexts from the mid-20th century to the present day. Sergio did not sanctify his projects and found grace in everything. With his finely tuned sense of humor, he continues to invite us to see design as an object of art and art as an active object interacting with its various audiences, through his practice of “fittings” and intimacy with materials and production technologies. This action honors the creativity of Sergio Rodrigues, one of the great masters of Brazilian and global design, and invites participation in a series of special projects to unfold until 2027.
